Season 8 is almost upon us!
Having had a bit of a rest and recovery after finishing up our last big blog project, it’s good to be back and blogging away.
Season 8 is here, and with it comes a new gameplay feature: coaching.
What does coaching look like? What is going on with match fixing? How are Chile getting on?
Let’s dive in.
Match-fixing.
If you’ve played some web3 games, you may have come across some scandals involving fixing, fraud, rug pulls and more.
Whether it’s StocksFC unceremoniously shutting down or the infamous Sentinel Saga on Zed Run, Web 3 has somewhat of a reputation as being the wild west.
That’s why Footium’s approach to match fixing is really key.
Season 7 has seen an incident where one individual has seemingly rigged games in Division 1 to boost their chances of winning, and they ultimately had clubs coming 1st and 2nd in Division 1.
It was potentially inevitable that individuals would have their own clubs playing against themselves, but this is perhaps less common at lower divisions where there are multiple leagues.
How has this incident been tackled?
From the Footium statement:
“As per the game rules, all clubs involved in the match fixing may receive punishment. In this instance, the rewards for 1st and 2nd place in Division 1 League 1 in Season 7 will not be awarded, and that exact amount will be redistributed amongst the remaining reward-winning clubs in line with the % of rewards won by those clubs in Season 7. This means the total rewards received by the clubs in question will be reduced by around half, and the other clubs in the league impacted will receive more rewards.”
Now, one thing I was really curious about, was whether any action would be attempted to ban the user. Given that they have a significant investment in Footium, the removal of such a potential whale would have likely sent shocks through the ecosystem.
One of the wallets, for example, has 6 clubs and 144 players alone.
I think, generally, that hitting people ‘where it hurts’, which often in web 3 means income, is sadly one of the only ways of preventing certain behaviours.
We’ll wait and see if this cuts out the behaviour, but for now it seems like a pragmatic approach to try and preserve the future of the ecosystem.
Coaching arrives!
With Season 8, comes once of the first new gameplay features in a while – coaching!
This starts with a plea to the Footium team! If a player has the same rating in multiple positions, please can it show as green in every position!
Now, onto what coaching is.
With coaching, you have a new & slightly different way to train players. If you use a coaching session, you get:
- +1 Rating in chosen position.
- +1 Rating in two strongest secondary positions.
- +90 Unlocked Minutes.
It costs 25% condition and 1 unlocked potential.
We’ve always said, if Footium wants to survive, it needs to diversify its income.
It may not be popular, but for Footium to continue to thrive, having more ways for the ecosystem to generate income is key.
And…50% of coaching spend goes straight into rewards!
What we like!
I thought I’d run through some bullet points about coaching.
- Diversifying income. Simply put, this will help the Footium ecosystem to sustain itself.
- More opportunities to train! The more we can improve players, the better (within reason).
- Condition & Potential. I like the consistency of it using the same condition & potential as regular training.
What we have questions about.
- Strongest secondary positions. At the moment, I don’t feel there is much incentive in Footium to have players able to play in multiple positions. It is economically and tactically viable to have all players specialise in one area.
- Accumulating minutes. I think we will have to see how this one plays out, but I will be curious to see if allowing accumulated minutes has an impact on the natural rotation we see in the game.
- Economics. We will always have to see how the pricing works out, but we shall see whether the prices are sustainable and people do buy them.
Economics
There are currently 3,252 clubs in Footium, and 3060 in the league system itself.
The average price for a coaching session is 0.000675 ETH. I know you can either buy 5 or 20 but see the below numbers as an average per club.
So here’s how much ETH could be generated just in prize money (50% of total) at various buy rates. Prices at time of writing.
- 0.1 Coaching Badge Bought Per Club = 0.103275 ETH = $261
- 1 Coaching Badge Bought Per Club = 1.03275 ETH = $2610
- 2 Coaching Badges Bought Per Club = 2.0655 ETH = $5211
- 5 Coaching Badges Bought Per Club = 5.16375 ETH = $13054
- 10 Coaching Badges Bought Per Club = 10.3275 ETH = $26108
- 20 Coaching Badges Bought Per Club = 20.655 ETH = $52216
So buy up! It’ll help us all.
Chile Arrives!
Despite our big push for Morocco, Chile have been added to the game!
Hope you get some quality Chilean prospects!
See you all on the pitch.
