Using All Footium Formations: 4-1-2-1-2

CAM, CAM, CAM…

Time to get our legendary CAM, Luigi Rossi, banging some goals in. Our 52 rated CAM gets to go centre stage whenever he goes into a formation. Let’s see how he gets on!

The Line Ups

Our Line Up

So, going into this game, we signed a couple of academy prospects to help pad out the squad and make sure we could keep energy levels high! Our new CM, Griffin, and our new CF, Todd, were brought straight into the squad.

Average Squad Rating: 40

Opponent’s Line Up

Back up against 5-2-3. I know from speaking to some of you lovely lot on discord, some of you were beginning to see 5-2-3 as a bit of a GOATED formation for Footium!

Let’s see how it went today.

Average Squad Rating: 38.2

This leaves Marrouck Villa with an Average Squad Rating 1.8 higher than our opponents.

Real Life Context

Diamonds are forever?

Often known as the ‘midfield diamond’, this is where 4-1-2-1-2 became widely known throughout football. Perhaps one of the most legendary things to come out of this formation was the use of Andrea Pirlo. This footballing superstar was able to have space as a DM, pinging amazing passes through the lines and dominating matches.

Strengths:

  • Midfield Domination: With the diamond centrally on the pitch, this formation is ideal for dominating the centre of the park and allowing the DM and AM to have space to shine.
  • Two Strikers. Less and less teams are playing with 2 strikers in 2025, so it’s something that’s incredibly difficult for defenders to line up against.
  • Flexibility. The two CM’s offer a lot of flexibility, as they can push forward alongside the AM to create 5 attackers, or drop behind the ball to really bolster the defense.

Weaknesses:

  • Width. This formation lacks width, and this can be very dangerous. The full backs can get overloaded and suffer a lot.
  • CAM man marking. As a lot has to go through the CAM, if they are man marked or taken out of the game, then it can be difficult for that link between midfield and attack to work.

The Match

We were worried about the width of our opponents, and maybe that’s what came back to bite us!

We were 2-0 down by the end of the first half. Despite pulling one back, our opponent’s then put the game to bed, and we ultimately lost 3-1.

I think the stats indicate the weaknesses of our formation. We had a lot of passes and even possession with our opponent; but didn’t generate many chances or goals. This is likely down to lacking the width to go up against 5-2-3, and definitely something to think about when going up against a back 5 in future.

See you all on the pitch!

Welcome To Not A Footium Blog

In 2022, I stumbled across an as yet un-released NFT project called Footium. What became a speculative purchase from some Zed Run winnings became a curiosity, then a passion, and now an obsession.

This blog will follow my Footium journey, dive into some of the topics of the game, and hopefully have some fun along the way!
