Is stamina variance real? Is it just because we can’t see decimals? Is it because of mentality? Let’s have a look.
The Data
Over the past couple of seasons, we’ve been frantically gathering data from matches to look into the intricacies of stamina. It’s not been as simple as we expected!
We hoped we’d be able to start gathering data from community matches, but we realised quickly that because we wouldn’t know the mentality chosen, we’d be getting data that was tainting the rest of our numbers. So, we had to use our matches.
For the purpose of the data gathered so far, we’ve been using:
- Players who’ve played an entire match.
- Players playing on balanced.
- Players playing in their chosen position.
- A team with high chemistry.
- Players ending the game with at least 50 condition remaining.
We know that mentality changes will change condition loss. Whether players out of position affects condition loss, we are yet to confirm or deny.
We also know that a players position affects condition loss. RM will lose condition at a different rate to GK, for example. If a GK plays RM, do they lose condition at the rate of a GK, or at the rate of a RM? We’ll have to find out.
When we gathered a lot of data, we realised there was some interesting things going on. The same player, in the same position, playing the same length of time, with the same mentality, wouldn’t always lose the same condition.
Let’s dive in.
Decimal Points
One thing to bear in mind, is we don’t see decimal points.
For example, one player did the following:
- 95 to 80 condition in one game (-15 condition).
- 96 to 79 condition in another game (-17 condition).
However, these may not be round numbers.
The top example could have gone anywhere from 95.4 to 79.6 (-15.8 condition) or from 94.6 to 80.4 (-14.2 condition).
The bottom example could have gone anywhere from 96.4 to 78.6 (-17.8 condition) or from 95.6 to 79.4 (-16.2 condition).
So, regardless of where within these scales the condition loss falls, there is still definitely a difference in these two examples. Same player, same condition, same position, same formation, same everything.
However, we know we don’t necessarily see the whole picture.
Case Studies
All of these case studies are for players who:
- Played a full match.
- Played on balanced.
- Played their chosen position.
- Played in a high chemistry team.
- Played in the same formation each time (usually 4-5-1 DM).
Goalkeepers:
Basiru Ojo (61 Stamina):
- Match 1 – Dropped from 95 to 80 Condition. 15 Condition Lost.
- Match 2 – Dropped from 96 to 79 Condition. 17 Condition Lost.
Raul Mendoza (81 Stamina):
- Match 1 – Dropped from 88 to 76 Condition. 12 Condition Lost.
- Match 2 – Dropped from 100 to 86 Condition. 14 Condition Lost.
Both these keepers have a variance of 2 in Condition loss, across identical matches.
Defenders:
Constantino Soriano (66 Stamina RB):
- Match 1 – Dropped from 91 to 74 Condition. 17 Condition Lost.
- Match 2 – Dropped from 100 to 81 Condition. 19 Condition Lost.
- Match 3 – Dropped from 100 to 81 Condition. 19 Condition Lost.
Khaled Gamal (69 Stamina RB):
- Match 1 – Dropped from 93 to 75 Condition. 18 Condition Lost.
- Match 2 – Dropped from 87 to 68 Condition. 19 Condition Lost.
- Match 3 – Dropped from 97 to 78 Condition. 19 Condition Lost.
Mohamed Atef (74 Stamina CB):
- Match 1 – Dropped from 90 to 73 Condition. 17 Condition Lost.
- Match 2 – Dropped from 100 to 81 Condition. 19 Condition lost.
- Match 3 – Dropped from 100 to 82 Condition. 18 Condition Lost.
Michael Carter (82 Stamina LB):
- Match 1 – Dropped from 71 to 55 Condition. 16 Condition Lost.
- Match 2 – Dropped from 96 to 78 Condition. 18 Condition Lost.
- Match 3 – Dropped from 100 to 82 Condition. 18 Condition Lost.
All of these players varied in a range of 2 Condition Loss, across identical matches.
Midfielders:
We had a lot of midfielders, but it is worth noting that some showed no variance and some showed a little bit of variance!
Umaro Nakashima (53 Stamina DM):
- Match 1 – Dropped from 90 to 71 Condition. 19 Condition Lost.
- Match 2 – Dropped from 84 to 64 Condition. 20 Condition Lost.
Stanley Yusuk (77 Stamina DM):
- Match 1 – Dropped from 83 to 65 Condition. 18 Condition Lost.
- Match 2 – Dropped from 94 to 76 Condition. 18 Condition Lost.
So you see, one with variance, one without. Let’s look at more examples.
Tobias Linke (68 Stamina CM):
- Match 1 – Dropped from 80 to 60 Condition. 20 Condition Lost.
- Match 2 – Dropped from 99 to 79 Condition. 20 Condition Lost.
Luigi Rossi (87 Stamina AM):
- Match 1 – Dropped from 87 to 72 Condition. 15 Condition Lost.
- Match 2 – Dropped from 100 to 73 Condition. 17 Condition Lost.
Hector Sosa (71 Stamina LM):
- Match 1 – Dropped from 79 to 60 Condition. 19 Condition Lost.
- Match 2 – Dropped from 100 to 79 Condition. 21 Condition Lost.
Ron White (73 Stamina RM):
- Match 1 – Dropped from 74 to 55 Condition. 19 Condition Lost.
- Match 2 – Dropped from 100 to 79 Condition. 21 Condition Lost.
So we see a mixture from 0 to 2 variance across these examples.
Attackers:
Pablo Prieto (56 Stamina CF):
- Match 1 – Dropped from 91 to 70 Condition. 21 Condition Lost.
- Match 2 – Dropped from 82 to 61 Condition. 21 Condition Lost.
- Match 3 – Dropped from 100 to 79 Condition. 21 Condition Lost.
So we see, no variance across three matches here!
Muhamed Markovic (72 Stamina CF):
- Match 1 – Dropped from 92 to 74 Condition. 18 Condition Lost.
- Match 2 – Dropped from 100 to 81 Condition. 19 Condition Lost.
- Match 3 – Dropped from 100 to 81 Condition. 19 Condition Lost.
So a tiny bit of variance here!
In Summary
God knows. We LOVE looking at data, and looking at these variances was really fun. So you see why we haven’t managed to build a condition loss calculator yet! But we are trying.
However, we reckon we can show some evidence of condition loss variance, and we can begin to help you estimate how much condition your players will lose in matches.
We look forward to showing you more!
