Morale, Stadiums and Attendance – ideas for the future of Footium!

Picture it now. You’re 1-0 up against a zombie team, but they equalise in the 89th minute. The crowd get on your back. The team think they might bottle it. Their heads drop. But their captain, with his 98 leadership, pulls them back up. 2-1 winner in the 91st minute. Limbs everywhere.

How can stadiums, leadership and attendances play into the Footium experience going forward?

Morale

We already have leadership and stamina, but could Footium have a morale stat for each player?

Similar to FM or other games, Footium Players could have an intrinsic ‘morale’ statistic, that is affected by external factors.

It could factor into overall performance, so alongside rating, chemistry, formation, leadership and stamina, a players morale could be part of these factors.

Morale could be fluid throughout a game, on a sliding scale that changes as a game progresses. The average morale across games could be used to calculate a teams overall morale.

Factors potentially determining morale:

  • Leadership – Both the leadership of individuals and the captain could factor into morale. Players with high leadership, backed by a captain with high leadership, would be less likely to be influenced and have their heads drop.
  • Attendance – If a stadium is well attended, morale could be higher for home games. Attendance could then be affected by performance, but also the signing of any big name players (affected by rarity).
  • Supporter attitude – We already have some information about our supporters – look at one of our clubs: “The Marrouck Villa supporters are well behaved and sometimes get outsung by the opposition supporters.” My interpretation of this would be something like our supporters, due to being well behaved, don’t get on our players back as much during poor performances, but also don’t have as much of a positive impact during good performances as they get outsung.
  • Performances – Very simple, good performances lead to better morale and bad performances lead to worse morale. Could be adjusted to have less of a negative impact for bad performances in a newly promoted team.
  • Stadiums – We currently have stadium capacity, and stadium materials. It could be that as we get promoted we could ‘invest’ in better stands and materials which give a permanent morale boost to the team.
  • Weather – There could be good and bad weather cycles with certain players adapted to each condition.

Stadiums

We already have a 3D model of our stadium, so I hope there’s a big future ahead for Stadiums in Footium!

At the moment we know limited information about our Stadiums:

  • Name
  • Capacity
  • Stand Material

It could be that there is a scale of potential ratings for Capacity and Stand Material, that are locked behind the division you are in.

Names – I actually like the name of my stadium, but I guess renaming it could be fun!

Stand materials could be:

  • Wood (bottom tier/common)
  • Brick (bronze tier)
  • Concrete (silver tier)
  • Steel (gold tier)
  • Glass (legendary/rare)

With the materials locked behind certain divisions. You could have Wood and Brick for all divisions, Concrete available from Division 6, Steel available from Division 4 and Glass available from Division 2.

Capacity could also have variety, with various capacity tiers available based on the division you’re in.

Stadium improvements could be invested in by owners of clubs, and lead to permanent morale improvements for players.

Attendance

Attendance may be relatively simple – directly affected by performance.

Let’s take a look at a club description, our old favourites, Division 1 winners:

“Cheackippleigh F.C. is a professional football club based in Cheackippleigh. Their fans are famous for being loyal and sometimes stay with their team when they’re losing.”

So whilst attendance should be directly affected by performance, supporters could play a role in how great this impact is. As the Cheackippleigh FC fans are loyal, it could be that this means attendance is less badly affected by performance.

The following factors could play into attendance:

  • Stadium materials – better materials, better attendance.
  • Division – higher Division could lead to better attendance.
  • Star Players – if you have rarer players, such as Legendary players, these could drive more fans to the seats.
  • Supporter attitude – loyal fans would be more likely to attend than fans who get on the backs of players.
  • Performances – good performances lead to better attendance, and vice versa. This could also be adjusted based on the supporter attitude.

Conclusion

What do you think? What do you want to see? Are these ideas good or a flash in the pan? What’s next for Footium!

We’re excited to see it.

See you on the pitch.

Welcome To Not A Footium Blog

In 2022, I stumbled across an as yet un-released NFT project called Footium. What became a speculative purchase from some Zed Run winnings became a curiosity, then a passion, and now an obsession.

This blog will follow my Footium journey, dive into some of the topics of the game, and hopefully have some fun along the way!
